An RAI President With A Plan

Big congratulations to Anthony Gray, owner of Tra Ban Restaurant in Strandhill and Eala Bhan on Rockwood Parade who has been announced as the new President of the Restaurant Association of Ireland. The official announcement was made during the Annual Presidential Dinner event in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, a glittering event which brought the 2015 RAI Annual Conference to a close.

Anthony, said “Over my two year term I will strive to assist schools both at Primary and Secondary level, to teach students life-long healthy eating habits and how to make positive food choices through making educated decisions on the food they consume. The RAI and I want the subject, Home Economics to become compulsory on the curriculum right up to junior cert where the emphasis should be on healthy eating and preparation of nutritional food”.

Those words are just music to my ears Mr Gray and I wish you every success.

Meanwhile, here at Hunters Lodge, I’m busy busy busy putting the finishing touches to my Freddy Buttons children’s book series.  Each book will have a recipe based on the food that is featured in the story and Ruth is having a fine time recipe testing for me.  We’ve got eggs, honey, milk, strawberries, apples and potatoes to work with – it’s great craic!  Don’t forget the Freddy Buttons children’s bookmark competition is still open – just click the Glenisk link at the top of my website for more details.

It’s back to writing for me now but I’m loving taking my breaks in this glorious sunshine – perfect weather to get out there and grow some food in the garden isn’t it?primroses
