Happy Easter readers. I hope you find time to spend with family and friends around your kitchen table this weekend -or at the very least, find time to do something nice for yourself. Our time is precious so spend it wisely….
Lavender for the honey bees on our new white picket fence
We are halfway through the school Easter holidays and one of the highlights so far for Ruth has been attending a cookery class with Oonagh Barrett of Great Irish Bake Off fame. With a brand spanking new demonstration kitchen, Oonagh’s new cookery school in Kellistown, Co Carlow is very quickly gaining huge popularity. If you want to contact Oonagh about a cookery class for yourself or indeed the little ones, visit her website at www.oonaghskitchen.ie. You can phone Oonagh on 086 8978711 – she definitely has Ruth’s stamp of approval!
Also during the week, one particular email caught my eye – it was from the Westbury Hotel, and for those of you who are not inclined to cook Easter Sunday lunch, this might be of interest to you..
Wilde Restaurant, Westbury Hotel
“Make it an Easter Sunday Lunch to remember by dining with friends or family in the AA rosette award winning Wilde- The Restaurant. The Westbury Hotel’s Executive Chef has designed a wonderful menu featuring accomplished dishes that celebrate the very finest in Irish produce, including a selection of appetisers such as Irish smoked salmon with caper berries, lemon crème fraîche and baked Crottin De Chavignon with roasted fig and toasted sourdough. With a strong emphasis on locally sourced produce, the main courses include line-caught seabass with sauce vierge, saffron mousseline and baby fennel herb crusted Wicklow spring lamb.
As the restaurant’s namesake once quipped “The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it” so why not give in to the enticing desserts such as crème brulée and scrumptious apple crumble. For those who prefer a savoury end to their dining experience, a selection of artisan cheese is served with oatmeal biscuits and flavoursome chutney. The Easter Sunday Lunch in Wilde – The Restaurant is available from 12.30pm until 15:30pm on Sunday 20th April and is available to both guests in the hotel and non-residents for €35pp. Reservations can be made through the restaurant on 01 646 3311″
I think this represents excellent value for money if you fancy treating yourself on Easter Sunday.
In the meantime, I have been busy painting my new picket fence (see pic above) and I was delighted to discover that my homemade Sugar Scrubs
are perfect for removing paint splatters from delicate hands. I am a messy painter and in truth my three young helpers weren’t much better – but we had great fun and I am loving the results.
Homemade Sugar Scrubs
With this spell of fine weather it’s such a pleasure to get out into the garden. I’m hoping to spend a lot of time this weekend pottering around in my garden.
I hope you find time to do something that you love over the next few days…
