Try to get to your local garden centre this week and pick up a pack of garlic bulbs (a pack of three should cost in the region of €2-€3). Now is the perfect time to get planting your garlic cloves for a tasty harvest next summer.
Don’t worry about the fact that the temperatures will most likely continue to drop over the next few months. Garlic is very resistant to freezing temperatures so don’t let the weather be a deterrent. Nor should space be. If you don’t have space to plant the garlic in it’s own vegetable bed, you can plant the cloves in pots or even in your flower bed.
So go on, give it a go. And if you are feeling very industrious, you could also plant onion sets and sow broad beans.
